SUPPORTED

 EMPLOYMENT

PROGRAM

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Association for Retarded Citizens Mid-Cities (Arc Mid-Cities), Supported Employment Program provides the consumers who are: a) eager to learn, b) willing to work hard, and, c) reliable with a work opportunity, employment in a competitive industry.  It is a chance to earn increased pay and to gain new skills. Consequently, the consumers increase their marketability and social independence.

Employers are, as a result, provided with a dependable source of labor and quality work, crediting well-trained job coaches who provide guaranteed quality training and quality control.

GOALS

The goal of Arc Mid-Cities Supported Employment Program is to provide programs which will enable consumers to develop their highest potential for independence by acquiring vocational, social, emotional, communicative, academic, physical, and independent living skills as needed.

ROLE OF THE JOB COACH

The job coach is an Arc Mid-Cities employee who accompanies the consumers to the job site.  At the job-site, the job coach provides the consumers with any needed assistance or training.  The job coach ensures that the job is performed according to the employer’s specifications.

PLACEMENT PROCESS

Each consumer goes through a pre-vocational assessment period so that the skills required on the job match the abilities of the consumer.  Every effort is made to ensure that the consumer is placed in his/her desired setting.

TYPES OF PLACEMENTS

Consumers are placed in enclaves or in individual placement positions.  When the consumer is in an individual placement, the job coach provides one-on-one training and assistance until the consumer can do the job on his/her own.  Once training is completed, the job coach continues to check on the consumer on a regular basis to make sure everything is going well.
